Every organization has someone who knows how it really works: which exceptions are fine and which are never fine, who can cover what and who only looks like they can. That knowledge is hard-won, written down nowhere, and it leaves the building when they do. Most software never tries to hold it — it records what happened and leaves the thinking to you, which is exactly why it needs supervising.

We put the reasoning inside. Not a record of the decision: the decision itself, made the way your best person would make it, at three in the morning when your best person is asleep. That is also why our software refuses things — a system holding the reasoning has nothing left to warn you about.
